School Overview

At Kendall, every member of the community is empowered to shine bright and think beyond the classroom! The goal of our Magnet program is to prepare all scholars for future learning, and ultimately college, and career. Our innovative curriculum and instruction embeds scientific inquiry, metacognition and technological integration within a project based learning and workforce development framework.

Student leaders are inspired to ask questions, work collaboratively, and think critically about how to solve global challenges. An annual talent showcase, original talk show, social justice group, and ongoing celebrations of learning are a few of the platforms that promote student voice and choice.

To demonstrate readiness for their transition into middle school, 5th grade students develop a digital portfolio and presentation that includes: college and career goals, standardized assessment data, a plan for continuous growth, and documentation of rigorous and relevant learning experiences. In addition, they present their capstone project that mirrors the age-appropriate components expected on a collegiate level.

Integrated into our curriculum and instruction are enriched learning experiences through the gifted and talented, Schoolwide Enrichment Model. “Project Glow” provides differentiated instruction for students in Grades 1-2 who are identified for accelerated learning, while the Gifted & Talented program provides advanced, conceptually challenging content for students in Grades 3-5.

Our whole-child approach not only supports our Gifted and Talented students, but also addresses the social and emotional needs of all students to enhance academic performance and overall social functioning. The RULER approach is an evidence- based social and emotional learning program developed by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER supports students, educators and families in understanding the value of emotions, building the skills of emotional intelligence, and creating and maintaining positive climates at school and at home.
